Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, attended the BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting in Nizhny Novgorod on October 10.

Wang Yi said that in the past year, the BRICS cooperation has gained brightness, speed and strength. With the expansion of our membership, we have ushered in a new era of unity and self-improvement in the Global South, and the appeal of BRICS continues to grow. We bravely stand at the head of the tide, mutual achievements, united as one, the wind ran out of the acceleration, the gold sign more and more bright, the voice of the gold is more powerful.

Wang Yi pointed out that in the face of the contest between the two forces of promoting world multipolarity and safeguarding unipolar hegemony, and in the face of the collision of two orientations of economic globalization and "anti-globalization", we should conform to the historical trend, stand on the side of fairness and justice, and make the right choice. Looking to the future, the "BRICS" must take great responsibility and make great achievements. We should give full play to the strategic significance and political effect of BRICS and build BRICS into a new, globally-oriented, open and inclusive multilateral cooperation mechanism based on emerging markets and developing countries.

To this end, first, we need to strengthen our confidence in multilateralism and draw a new blueprint for future global development. Second, we should strengthen our resolve to maintain peace and security and provide new impetus for the political settlement of hotspot issues. Third, we need to be firm in our founding aspiration of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation and take BRICS practical cooperation to a new level.

The participants spoke highly of the important role of the BRICS mechanism and the achievements of membership expansion, believing that more and more countries joining BRICS cooperation has accelerated the process of world multi-polarization, promoted a more just and reasonable international order, and supported the establishment of partner countries.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Wang Yi met respectively with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Salonse, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Brazilian Foreign Minister Vieira, South African Foreign Minister Pandol, Ethiopian Foreign Minister Taye and Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri.
